Job Description

Our client is an industry leading agribusiness with sophisticated sugar mill operations located in Herbert region and surrounds. They are currently looking to fill multiple positions across their sites in the Herbert Region, with work commencing in April 2026 onwards.

Positions:

Loco Driver Assistant

Our client is currently looking to fill 50 Locomotive Driver Assistant positions across their Herbert sites.

Key duties include assisting the Locomotive Driver with locomotive and brake wagon services, assembling cane bin rakes for delivery, and inspecting and tagging defective bins. The role requires clear communication with the driver via hand signals and radio, monitoring other traffic and personnel, and performing additional tasks during the crushing season as needed. Responsibilities also include training other assistants, assisting with locomotive checks and housekeeping, and operating vehicles, with the ability to obtain a driver's license.

You will be paid above the Sugar Industry Award - Level 2, an hourly rate of $33.08 per hour, and seasonal contract with an average minimum of 38 hours per week.

General Mill Worker

Our client is currently looking to fill 50 General Mill Worker positions across their Herbert sites.

Key duties involve performing physical tasks such as walking over rough terrain, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting up to 20kg, and using various tools like shovels, hammers, and grinders. The role includes assisting with machinery maintenance, moving materials, working in confined spaces, and operating high-impact tools. Additional tasks include clean-up activities, assisting with crane operations, and performing general housekeeping. The position also requires ensuring safety protocols, including permits, risk assessments, and working at heights as necessary.

You will be paid above the Sugar Industry Award - Level 2, an hourly rate of $33.08 per hour, and seasonal contract with an average minimum of 38 hours per week.

Cane Rail Labourer

Our client is currently looking to fill 50 Cane Rail Labourer positions across their Herbert sites.

Key duties include working as part of a team, operating vehicles (with the ability to obtain a driver's license), and communicating effectively with team members. Responsibilities involve maintaining tools and equipment, ensuring good housekeeping at the work site and in vehicles, and performing track maintenance tasks such as changing sleepers, straightening lines, and packing ballast. The role also includes joint fettling, cleaning turnouts, basic metal cutting, working on cane rail bridges, and other duties as directed by the Cane Rail Supervisor.

You will be paid above the Sugar Industry Award - Level 2, an hourly rate of $33.08 per hour, and seasonal contract with an average minimum of 38 hours per week.

Loco Driver

Our client is currently looking to fill 50 Locomotive Driver positions across their Herbert sites.

The Locomotive Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transport of empty/full cane bins from across the region to the agreed mill.

Key duties include operating Locomotive as per work instructions, observing train and surroundings, inspecting bins for damage and tagging defective bins, operating the 2 way radio, monitoring the position of other traffic and personnel, servicing locos and brake wagons, operating machinery (with the appropriate Authority to Operate permit). You will also be required to Supervise, instruct and train Locomotive Drivers and Locomotive Driver's Assistants.

You will be paid above the Sugar Industry Award - Level 5, an hourly rate of $36.56 per hour, and seasonal contract with an average minimum of 38 hours per week.

  • Work under supervision.
  • Exercise decision making/responsibility within their level of skill and training.
  • Demonstrate awareness of general quality control standards, in particular responsibility for their own work and advise of quality control problems where identified.
  • Assist with on the job training.
  • Service and adjust equipment according to their level of skill and training, and advise of any additional maintenance required.
  • Demonstrate general housekeeping skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to use common language skills to engage in communication and to read and understand written and oral communications plus prepare records that convey information accurately and concisely.
