About the role:

As a cadet in training at the South Australia Police Academy in Taperoo, you will benefit from fully paid training with SAPOL. Your training will combine academic studies in law, policy and procedure with practical and physical training.

Upon successful completion, you will become part of a team who provides frontline services to the community - including mobile patrols to prevent and detect crime, maintain law and order, and undertake an active role in traffic policing and road safety campaigns.

What we're looking for:

Some of the key tasks you will perform in this role include.

  1. Preventing, detecting and investigating offences in areas such as street offences, family violence, traffic, drugs and alcohol
  2. Securing and examining crime scenes and accidents to locate and obtain evidence
  3. Maintaining public safety
  4. General Patrols in identified areas to minimise the potential for public disturbance and crime
  5. Investigating accidents, crimes, minor offences and public complaints, gathering evidence and investigating, arresting and interviewing suspects
  6. Testing persons suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and issuing infringement notices for traffic offences
  7. Directing and controlling traffic at congested areas
  8. Attending at community engagement events
  9. Providing advice and assistance to victims of crime and their families
  10. Maintaining records and preparing reports
  11. Attending court

Eligibility:

To serve as a South Australian Police Officer, you must be:

  1. 17 years or older at the time of application
  2. An Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  3. Able to meet medical, fitness and psychometric requirements
  4. Able to complete operational training and be willing to carry and use operational safety equipment, including a firearm
