About the Role
At Maaken, we don’t just finish surfaces—we set the benchmark for quality and style. You’ll collaborate with a skilled team, hone your craft, and help us deliver flawless finishes that stand the test of time.

- Applies decorative and protective render finishes (such as cement or acrylic render) to the interiors and exteriors of buildings. This role requires a blend of practical, technical, and interpersonal skills. The key specific skills needed for a construction renderer include
- Surface Preparation: Ability to clean, prime, and repair walls or surfaces to ensure proper render adhesion.
- Mixing and Applying Render: Skill in accurately mixing different rendering materials and applying them using trowels, floats, and hawks.
- Finishing Techniques: Proficiency in smoothing, leveling, and finishing surfaces to meet specific aesthetic and functional requirements (e.g., plumb, square, uniform thickness).
- Working with Templates: Ability to prepare and use templates for rendering curved or shaped surfaces (e.g., columns).
- Texturing and Decorative Work: Competence in creating decorative or textured finishes as required by the project.
- Use of Tools and Equipment: Safe and effective use of rendering tools (trowels, floats, hawks) and maintaining them properly.
- Reading Plans and Specifications: Ability to read and interpret building plans, drawings, and specifications for rendering tasks.
Workplace and Safety Skills
- Compliance with Safety Standards: Understanding and following workplace health and safety regulations, including correct use of PPE and safe work practices.
- Organisation and Planning: Managing time, planning the workspace, preparing materials in advance, and organising the workflow efficiently.
- Problem-Solving: Promptly identifying and correcting defects or inconsistencies in rendered surfaces.
Communication and Teamwork
- Communication Skills: Ability to follow instructions, read site documentation, and coordinate with site supervisors, other trades, and sometimes clients.
- Teamwork: Working effectively alongside other construction personnel and adapting to team dynamics.
Qualifications
- Certificate III in Solid Plastering would be extremely beneficial
Additional Attributes
- Physical Stamina and Strength: Rendering can be physically demanding, requiring manual handling of tools, materials, and repetitive motions.
- Attention to Detail: Ensuring rendered surfaces meet both client and design specifications for quality and appearance.
- Comfortable using digital tools for job tracking and reporting.
- Eager to learn and ready for new challenges.
- Own hand tools required.
