Production Support Specialist - Level 3 Java

We’re looking for an experienced Java L3 Production Support Specialist to join a large enterprise environment, supporting critical, business-facing applications.

Please note: This role is strictly for experienced Level 3 Production Support / Technical Support Specialists with prior financial services experience.

This is not a software engineering role and is not suitable for developers looking to transition into support. You will only be successful in this role if you have proven, hands-on experience supporting live, business-critical Java systems at an L3 level within a financial services environment.

The role

We’re hiring for a permanent Java L3 Production Support Specialist to support critical applications in a large, regulated financial services organisation. Your focus is on incident resolution, system stability, and preventing repeat issues in a live production environment.

To be considered you must have:

1. 6+ years’ experience in Level 3 production support / technical support roles
2. Direct experience working in financial services (banking, payments, insurance, wealth, or similar)
3. Strong hands-on experience supporting Java applications in production
4. A background in incident-driven, regulated environments
5. Australian working rights (no sponsorship available)
6. Able to do a live java coding test

Day to day, you will:

1. Own L3 production support for Java applications
2. Troubleshoot and resolve complex production incidents
3. Perform root cause analysis and implement preventative fixes
4. Support incidents, problems, and changes in line with ITIL processes
5. Monitor logs, batch jobs, and application health
6. Work closely with development and infrastructure teams to resolve issues
7. Improve stability through scripting and automation

What we’re looking for

1. 6+ years’ experience in Level 3 production support or technical support roles
2. Proven background supporting Java applications in production
3. Strong hands-on knowledge of Core Java and Spring / Spring Boot
4. Demonstrated experience working in incident-driven, business-critical environments
5. Strong SQL skills, including query optimisation
6. Comfortable working in Linux/Unix environments
7. Clear communication skills and confidence engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders
8. A calm, methodical approach during high-pressure incidents

Nice to have

1. Autosys or similar job scheduling tools
2. Shell scripting or automation experience
3. Exposure to AWS or cloud-based environments
4. Experience with monitoring and observability tools

5. Not suitable for candidates without prior L3 production support experience
