About Kulkarriya Community School

Located near Noonkanbah along the Fitzroy River in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, Kulkarriya Community School is a community-led, culturally grounded independent school serving students from Kindergarten to Year 10. Established by local Aboriginal people to ensure that their children received an education that reflects their traditions, values and kinship systems, the school fosters a unique two-way learning model that values both Aboriginal languages and English.

With small class sizes (10–15 students), our team-teaching model supports collaborative learning with Aboriginal educators, focusing on culturally responsive delivery of the WA curriculum. Students speak English as a second or third language, with Walmajarri and Nyikina commonly spoken at home. We are proud of our strong, close-knit staff culture and are deeply connected with the community.

About the Opportunity

Kulkarriya Community School is looking for a full-time Teacher based in Yungngora, Mount Hardman, WA. We are seeking a Teacher to teach children in our Primary school, with experience with children across multiple age groups to start as early as possible in Term 2.

You will report to the Principal and collaborate with fellow educators and Aboriginal Education Workers to provide a high-quality, inclusive learning experience grounded in local culture and community values.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Delivering differentiated lessons aligned to the WA curriculum
  2. Collaborating with Aboriginal educators in a team-teaching environment
  3. Incorporating two-way learning that reflects local cultural knowledge
  4. Building strong relationships with students, staff, and community
  5. Managing classroom behaviour in a culturally aware and responsive way
  6. Supporting extra-curricular activities like music, sport or on-country learning
  7. Participating in community and school events, camps, and excursions

This is a full-time position offered on a rolling 12-month contract basis.

About You

You’re not just a teacher — you’re a relationship builder, a team player, and someone who thrives on making a difference beyond the classroom walls.

To qualify, you'll need a Bachelor of Education, registration with the TRBWA, and a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC).

While prior teaching experience in rural or remote communities is highly regarded, we also warmly welcome early-career teachers who bring maturity, passion, and an eagerness to embrace a culturally rich and rewarding environment.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  1. Cultural awareness and experience working with Aboriginal communities
  2. ESL or EALD teaching experience or strategies
  3. Strong curriculum knowledge and behaviour management skills
  4. Trauma-informed education experience (desirable)
  5. Four-wheel drive licence or willingness to obtain

You’ll also bring resilience, curiosity, and open-mindedness. You understand that working in community is as much about listening and learning as it is about teaching. You’ll be ready to embrace new experiences — whether that’s going fishing on the Fitzroy River, supporting the local football team, or simply enjoying the quiet beauty of the Kimberley landscape.

This is a unique opportunity for an educator who values purpose-driven teaching, thrives in a team, and is excited to engage in rich cultural experiences.

A valid driver’s licence and access to your own vehicle is essential.

About the Benefits

This is a truly life-changing opportunity, offering a generous benefits package that includes:

  1. Annual salary between $110,000 and $130,000, PLUS Super
  2. $18,000 Bonus after 12 months of full-time service
  3. $5,000 Relocation Allowance (reimbursable)

  10. Flexible leave options and team support — including Friday half-days for planning or rest
  11. Travel flexibility and local staff discounts for flights and services
