The Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Landscape Architect to join our growing team in Sydney. In this role, you will contribute to the design, planning, and delivery of innovative landscape projects, working closely with clients and project teams to create practical and visually compelling outdoor solutions.
Location: Lilyfield, Sydney NSW
Position: Full-time
Salary range: $75,000 – $80,000 per annum plus superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience.
As a Landscape Architect, you will play a vital role in the planning, design, and development of landscape environments that are functional, sustainable, and aesthetically integrated with their surroundings. Your key duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Undertaking site investigations and landscape assessments, including reviewing development applications, property reports, and site constraints to inform landscape planning and design strategies.
- Analysing environmental, ecological, and geographical characteristics of sites, including landforms, soils, vegetation, hydrology, and existing built structures to guide landscape design solutions.
- Assessing site layout, spatial planning considerations, and integration with surrounding built environments to ensure landscape designs complement architectural elements and overall site functionality.
- Consulting with clients and stakeholders to determine project objectives, design requirements, and functional outcomes for residential landscape and outdoor living environments.
- Preparing conceptual landscape designs, sketches, site layouts, and detailed landscape plans using professional design and modelling software such as Vectorworks for drafting and SketchUp for 3D modelling.
- Producing 3D visualisations and design presentations to communicate landscape concepts and proposed outcomes to clients and project stakeholders.
- Preparing detailed design documentation including landscape plans, planting plans, construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for project development and council approval.
- Conducting research and ensuring compliance with planning and regulatory frameworks including State Environmental Planning Policies (SEPP), Local Environmental Plans (LEP), Development Control Plans (DCP), Australian Standards, and the Building Code of Australia.
- Coordinating with architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants to ensure the technical feasibility and successful delivery of landscape projects.
- Conducting site inspections during construction to ensure works are delivered in accordance with approved designs, technical specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Preparing post-construction landscape management and maintenance recommendations to ensure the long-term sustainability and functionality of completed projects.
Requirements and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture (or related discipline)
- Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience in landscape architecture and project delivery.
- Ability to undertake site analysis and develop landscape design solutions that respond to environmental, spatial, and planning considerations.
- Sound understanding of Australian planning and regulatory frameworks (SEPP, LEP, DCP, Australian Standards, BCA).
- Proficiency in landscape design and visualisation software to produce design concepts, technical drawings, and 3D presentations.
- Experience preparing landscape plans, planting schedules, and documentation for council approval and construction.
- Knowledge of sustainable landscape design principles, including water-sensitive design and environmentally responsive planting.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with clients, consultants, and project teams.
