Our operations focus on delivering reliable mechanical services with minimal vehicle downtime. Due to continued growth and demand for our services, we are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our workshop team on a full‑time permanent basis.
Position Summary:
The Heavy Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for carrying out diagnostic, repair, maintenance, and testing work on heavy diesel vehicles and associated mechanical systems. The position requires a high level of technical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team while following manufacturer specifications, service manuals, workplace safety procedures, and regulatory standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:
- Detecting, analysing, and diagnosing faults in diesel engines, engine assemblies, and mechanical systems to identify the cause of equipment failure or malfunction
- Dismantling and removing engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and other mechanical components, and checking individual parts for damage, wear, or defects
- Repairing and replacing worn, damaged, or defective parts using appropriate tools and techniques and reassembling mechanical components in accordance with service manuals and manufacturer specifications
- Performing routine and scheduled maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, inspections, and engine tune‑ups to ensure smooth running of vehicles and compliance with pollution and emissions regulations
- Reassembling engines, mechanical assemblies, and components following repair or replacement work to restore vehicles to safe operating condition
- Testing and adjusting mechanical parts and systems after repair to ensure proper performance, reliability, and compliance with safety standards
- Diagnosing and testing engine and mechanical system faults using computer‑based diagnostic equipment and specialised tools
- Conducting vehicle inspections to assess roadworthiness and, where authorised, issuing roadworthiness certificates or documenting and reporting work required to achieve roadworthy compliance
- Maintaining accurate service and repair records and complying with workplace health and safety requirements at all times
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience Required:
To be successful in this role, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or an equivalent trade qualification
- At least one year of relevant post‑qualification work experience as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic
- Demonstrated experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy diesel engines, transmissions, steering systems, and related mechanical components
- Proven ability to use computer‑assisted diagnostic systems and specialised mechanical tools
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow service manuals, technical drawings, and manufacturer specifications
- Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
- Commitment to safe work practices and compliance with workplace health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively within a team environment
