The Role

The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia’s economic and national security landscape for decades to come.

This is a unique opportunity to directly contribute to work that will impact Australia’s strategic and Defence outcomes. The Australian Submarine Agency (ASA) Finance Branch supports the Chief Financial Officer, the Assistant Director General Program Costing, and the ASA through the provision of expert strategic support and advice on the development of the acquisition, sustainment and disposal of nuclear-powered submarines (NPS).

To effectively support the ASA to deliver on their outcomes, we are seeking individuals who thrive in a high paced environment, can work independently and as part of a team, and have great interpersonal skills.

As an APS 5 working within the ASA Finance Branch, you will strengthen your technical skills, and be provided the opportunity to support entity wide decision-making through the provision of accurate, timely financial analysis and advice. We are seeking to fill APS 5 vacancies within the Finance Business Partner Directorate responsible for:

  1. Providing strategic financial analysis, assurance and advice in support and delivery of budgets and outcomes, including the capability development process.

  3. The ability to analyse financial information, discuss, and present outcomes to key stakeholders.
  4. Effective written and oral communication skills to professionally research, engage and respond to internal and external stakeholder queries
  5. The willingness and drive to develop and learn new skills.

In addition to the core APS 5 capabilities above, we are seeking candidates with experience in or the transferrable skills with have an eagerness to acquire skills and knowledge to:

  1. Build and sustain collaborative Finance Business Partnerships, including liaising with business areas, procurement teams and finance subject matter experts, to support them in the development and management of budgets and forward year plans.
  2. Monitor and support performance reviews of contracts and agreements against budget and schedule to assess the financial impact of changes.
  3. Provide support on the financial aspects of asset management including but not limited to, asset reconciliations, maintenance of Asset Valuation Models (AVMs), Project Capitalisation Plans, asset rollouts and aged and uncleared balances.
  4. Research, evaluate and contribute to the preparation of briefs and reports on emerging issues and new investment proposals.
