Position Summary
The Diesel Mechanic (Hydraulics & Hydraulic Hose Specialist) is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, with a strong focus on hydraulic systems and hydraulic hose fabrication and replacement. The role involves servicing heavy vehicles, plant, and equipment while ensuring hydraulic components operate safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting skills and maintain high safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
Diesel Mechanical Duties
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines and associated mechanical systems.
• Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance on diesel vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment.
• Repair or replace engine components, transmissions, braking systems, and suspension systems.
• Use diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical and electrical faults.
• Conduct testing and inspections to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
Hydraulic System Duties
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic system faults including pumps, cylinders, valves, and motors.
• Install, maintain, and repair hydraulic components and systems.
• Test hydraulic systems for leaks, pressure issues, and performance problems.
• Read and interpret hydraulic schematics and technical manuals.
Hydraulic Hose Fabrication
• Measure, assemble, and crimp hydraulic hoses to manufacturer specifications.
• Replace damaged hydraulic hoses and fittings on equipment.
• Maintain hydraulic hose inventory and fittings.
• Ensure correct hose routing, installation, and safety compliance.
General Duties
• Maintain accurate service and repair records.
• Follow workplace health and safety procedures and regulations.
• Keep workshop and tools clean, organized, and in safe working condition.
• Communicate with supervisors and customers regarding equipment issues and repair timelines.
• Assist with field service repairs when required.

Required Skills and Qualifications
• Trade qualification in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, or similar.
• Proven experience working with diesel engines and heavy equipment.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and hydraulic hose assembly.
• Experience using hose crimping machines and hydraulic diagnostic tools.
• Ability to read technical manuals and hydraulic schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with heavy machinery, trucks, agricultural, or mining equipment.
• Forklift licence.
• HR or HC driver’s licence.
• Welding or fabrication experience.
• Field service experience.

• Ability to lift heavy components and equipment.
• Ability to work in workshop and field environments.
• Ability to stand, bend, and work in confined spaces when required.

Working Conditions
• Workshop and on-site field service work.
• Exposure to mechanical equipment, oils, fuels, and hydraulic fluids.
• Occasional overtime or emergency repair work may be required.
• May need to travel interstate occasionally.
