  • Six-month mentorship with an inspiring female professional who has a passion for economics and policy
  • Understand how the study of economics can be applied in practice across the private and public sectors
  • Gain exposure to Australia's largest and leading economic advisory practice

Model Your Future…with Deloitte Access Economics has been created to inspire more women to pursue economics and policy as a profession and career path.

This is a mentoring program and not an internship.

What will you get to do?
The program runs for six months (from May to October) and fits neatly alongside the academic calendar. Throughout the program you’ll take part in a mix of national and state-based events, delivered both virtually and in-person, giving you the chance to connect with mentors and fellow mentees across Australia.

A key component of the program will be three one-on-one meetings with your mentor, where you can focus on the goals that matter most to you. Together, you might explore things like:

  • Navigating university decisions and opportunities in and out of the classroom
  • Revealing how economics and the study of economics and policy can be applied in practice, including the importance of economic principles in achieving good policy
  • Uncovering lessons on transitioning from university to the workplace and/or from undergraduate to further studies
  • Reflecting on career and academic ambitions, goals, or pathways
  • Beginning to develop a professional network.

You’ll also get to see economics come to life throughCount Her In, our publication written by Model Your Future mentees, alumni and Deloitte Access Economics graduates.

Launched last year, this publication showcases how economics shows up in everyday life. Think Love Island, Pilates trends and quirky toys – all explored through an economic lens. It’s economics in action, not just in abstract graphs.

If you want a taste of the energy that makes the Model Your Future Program so special, Count Her In is the perfect place to start.

Events

There are three key events that are compulsory to attend over the course of the program. Please ensure that you can attend the events below before you apply:

Welcome and networking event | 18th May 2026

A day in the life of a professional economist | 3rd August 2026

Program close event | 13th October 2026

Who are our Mentors?
Our mentors are experienced professionals who are passionate about economics, policy, and supporting the next generation of economists – particularly young women entering the field.

Through the Model Your Future Program, you’ll connect with inspiring women from one of Australia’s largest economics practices.

We know the economics and policy profession can seem daunting from the outside. Our mentors are here to share their experiences, offer guidance, and help you explore the opportunities a career in economics can offer.

Enough about us, let’s talk about you.
You'll be a curious and inquisitive female student who:

  • Is enthusiastic to meet, discuss, learn and explore economics and policy
  • Has a passion for economics and policy
  • Is a strong communicator – both verbally and written
  • Is looking to pursue a career in economics or policy.

Application process

  1. Check your eligibility -You must be a currently enrolled female university student studying economics or public policy (undergraduate or Masters level). We have city-focused programs in each of Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Hobart. For successful applicants in other locations, including those studying in regional areas, we will endeavour to match with you with an appropriate mentor from one of our teams across the country through a fully virtual version of the program. We know the program can be a great success when fully virtual!
  2. Application questions - It is important that you have conducted thorough research and can clearly articulate in your application why Model Your Future is the right fit for you. We are looking for brief and to-the-point responses. Please provide a succinct response to the following questions for your application:
    • What year do you expect to graduate in?
    • Why are you inspired by economics or public policy?
    • What do you hope to get out of your mentorship?
    • Will you be available for the full program year (i.e., May to October) including program events?
  3. Getting back to you - At Deloitte Australia, we are absolutely committed to getting back to you as soon as we can. Whether it is by email or phone, we will let you know if you are unsuccessful or if you are progressing to the next step in the process.
You can expect a response back from us in relation to your application for Model Your Future after applications close on the 19th of April 2026.
