Our kitchen is the heart of everything we do, and we take pride in preparing traditional dishes using time-honoured recipes, fresh produce, and aromatic spices sourced from across the Indian subcontinent. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a talented and experienced Cook to join our passionate team.

Position Overview

The Cook will play a central role in the daily operation of our kitchen, specialising in authentic Indian cuisine. Working closely with the Head Chef and kitchen team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, cooking, and presentation of a full range of Indian dishes to the highest possible standard.

This is a full-time permanent position with salary package from $70,000 to $80,000. The successful applicant must be available to work a rotating roster including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

The Cook will be required to perform the following duties:

• Prepare, cook, and present a wide variety of authentic Indian dishes, including curries, tandoori items, biryanis, breads (roti, naan, paratha), lentil dishes, and vegetarian and vegan options

• Set up and manage workstations within the kitchen, ensuring all equipment, utensils, and ingredients are ready before service

• Follow and adapt traditional Indian recipes to maintain consistency, flavour profiles, and presentation standards

• Prepare and blend spices, marinades, chutneys, and sauces from scratch in accordance with authentic culinary techniques

• Operate and maintain kitchen appliances including tandoor ovens, pressure cookers, tawa griddles, and commercial gas burners

• Monitor food inventory, assist with ordering supplies, and minimise wastage

• Ensure compliance with all food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations

• Contribute to the development and seasonal variation of the menu in consultation with the Head Chef

• Train and supervise junior kitchen staff and kitchen hands as directed

• Collaborate effectively with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth and timely service during peak periods

• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment at all times

• Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating food stock in accordance with food safety requirements

Required Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must demonstrate the following:

• A minimum of 3 years of experience working as a cook in an Indian restaurant or comparable Indian culinary environment

• Demonstrated proficiency in preparing authentic North Indian, South Indian, or pan-Indian cuisine

• A minimum Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (AQF Level 3) or an equivalent qualification — or equivalent trade experience

• Sound understanding of food safety, allergen management, and HACCP principles

• Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment

• Strong communication and teamwork skills

• Flexibility to work rostered shifts including evenings, weekends, and public holidays

Remuneration & Conditions

The successful candidate will receive a remuneration package of AUD $70,000 – $80,000 per annum (gross), commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus superannuation contributions at the applicable statutory rate.
