A highly popular Indian restaurant in the inner suburbs of Melbourne is seeking their next skilled and passionate Cook to join their busy kitchen team!

SkillQuest Solutions are seeking a qualified and experienced Cook on behalf of our client, a well-established restaurant specialising in authentic Indian and Indo-Chinese cuisine. The business is known for delivering traditional dishes prepared with fresh ingredients, aromatic spices, and carefully developed recipes that reflect regional flavours. With a strong reputation for quality and consistency, the restaurant offers the perfect ambiance and setting for dine-in service, whilst also offering takeaway and catering services to a loyal and growing customer base.

Location – Hawthorn, Victoria 3122

Salary - $75,000 - $85,000 plus superannuation per annum

Employment Type - Full-time, Permanent

THE ROLE:

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Cook to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment. The role will focus on preparing high-quality dishes, maintaining consistency in flavour and presentation, and supporting efficient kitchen operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

· Prepare, season and cook a variety of Indian and Indo-Chinese inspired dishes in line with established recipes and service standards.

· Assist the Chef in the preparation and cooking of authentic dishes while maintaining consistency in flavour, quality and presentation.

· Prepare and adapt meals to meet the individual needs of diners including special dietary requirements, such as vegetarian, vegan, allergies and culturally specific preferences.

· Monitor cooking processes and regulate temperatures of ovens, grills, fryers, and tandoori equipment to ensure safe and consistent food preparation.

· Ensure all dishes are prepared and portioned correctly, finishing meals with appropriate sauces, garnishes and plating.

· Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness in accordance with kitchen and food handling regulations.

· Assist with stock control, including checking deliveries, storing food correctly, including correct use of cold storage, to maintain quality and minimise waste.

· Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure efficient service and timely preparation of meals.

· Assist the Chef and management team in estimating of food and ingredient requirements.

· Maintain a clean, organised and safe kitchen environment throughout all shifts.

· Follow Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) procedures to maintain a safe and compliant kitchen environment at all times.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• Relevant qualification, such as a Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (or agreed equivalent).

• Minimum of 1 year (preferably more) of work experience as a Cook, ideally in a busy Indian restaurant.

• Experience in tandoori cooking, preparing advanced marinades, masalas and curry pastes and sauces from scratch.

• Experience in preparing and cooking Indian breads and operating and maintaining traditional clay tandoor ovens.

• Willingness to prepare and cook a variety of proteins, including beef, lamb, mutton and pork as required by the menu.

• Assist with the ordering and receiving of kitchen supplies, monitoring stock levels, and implementing stock control practices to minimise food waste and maintain cost efficiency.

• Dedicated to delivering great food and exceptional presentation.

• Knowledge and commitment to OHS and Food Safety regulations.

• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

• Available to work across weekday evenings and weekends.

You must have unrestricted working rights to work full time in Australia to be eligible for consideration.
