Chicken or the Egg Café is a well-established, all day breakfast and lunch venue seating up to 80 patrons located on historic Maling Road, Canterbury. Since opening in 2017, we have built a strong local following, offering a welcoming atmosphere and exceptional service. This is supported by our dedicated kitchen team, whose passion, teamwork, and commitment to quality are central to our ongoing success.

We are seeking a full-time Cook to join our exceptional, long-standing kitchen crew.

About the Role

This is a hands-on position working within a fast-paced café environment. You will be responsible for preparing and cooking menu items to a high standard, ensuring consistency, quality, and efficient kitchen operations.

Key Responsibilities

· Prepare and cook a range of breakfast and lunch dishes in line with our menu

· Monitoring and maintaining consistency in the quality of the dishes, preparation and presentation before serving.

· Operate and manage kitchen equipment, including grills, ovens, and fryers

· Ensure food is prepared and stored in accordance with food safety standards

· Assist with portion/stock control and ordering, and minimising food wastage

· Support menu consistency and contribute to daily specials where required

· Maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment

· Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff during service

· Communicate effectively and positively with the wider café team, especially when dealing with customer queries or dietary requirements

Requirements

· Relevant qualification (Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery)

· At least one year of relevant work experience in a similar role (café desirable)

· Experience working in a busy kitchen environment

· Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene practices

· Ability to work effectively under pressure

· Reliable, team-oriented, and committed to quality

· Availability to work on weekends
