We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Nurse Unit Manager / Clinical Nurse Educator (CNUM/CNE) with strong SCN experience and a genuine commitment to delivering woman‑centred, family‑focused, evidence‑based care. About Us

Our Women's Health Unit provides comprehensive maternity and gynaecology services and includes:

  • 43‑bed postnatal, antenatal, and gynaecology ward
  • 7 birthing suites
  • 7‑cot Special Care Nursery

You will work closely with our Maternity Unit Managers, Paediatricians, Obstetricians, and broader leadership teams to support high‑quality, safe, and compassionate neonatal care.

About the Role

As the Special Care Nursery Clinical NUM/Educator, you will lead day‑to‑day SCN operations while driving education, capability building, and best practice across the SCN and maternity services. This role blends clinical leadership with workforce development, ensuring high‑quality neonatal care in line with national standards.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Operational Management

  • Lead and coordinate daily operations of the SCN
  • Oversee patient flow, bed management, and safe clinical care
  • Provide advanced neonatal support, including Level 3 SCN care and Bubble CPAP
  • Collaborate with VMOs to plan and deliver care for neonates and families
  • Maintain high‑quality documentation, patient safety, and continuity of care

Education & Professional Development

  • Design and deliver contemporary, evidence‑based education programs
  • Create engaging learning opportunities that empower and upskill staff
  • Support staff and students in developing neonatal competencies and best practice
  • Provide advanced clinical guidance, including neonatal resuscitation and emergency response
  • Monitor, evaluate, and support ongoing staff development
  • Develop and maintain competency frameworks and education resources

Quality, Safety & Governance

  • Drive quality improvement initiatives within the SCN
  • Promote compliance with NSQHS Standards
  • Participate in safety investigations, reviews, and clinical audits
  • Foster a culture of safe, patient‑centred, family‑centred care

Workforce & Financial Management

  • Contribute to a skilled, confident, and high‑performing workforce
  • Lead and support the SCN team, fostering a positive, inclusive culture
  • Manage staffing, rosters, performance reviews, and workforce planning
  • Support resource optimisation, budget processes, and WHPPD targets

What You'll Bring

Essential

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a Special Care Nursery
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE)
  • Proficiency in respiratory support- Bubble CPAP
  • Experience with e‑learning platforms
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable

  • Postgraduate study (e.g., Master of Education or related qualification)
  • Previous experience in an educator or senior neonatal nurse role
